The Video Platform Provides Users Authority to Reduce AI-Generated Videos in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a new feature that enables them to reduce the volume of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their feeds. This initiative comes as the service announced that it currently hosts more than 1 bn AI videos.

Testing and Rollout

The update is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a global release. This development coincides with a rise in content created by AI, fueled by new AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

Studies have shown that approximately one in 10 of the fastest-growing video streams on a competing service only show clips produced artificially. A considerable share of this material is classified as mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, factory-style content that is typically nonsensical or bizarre.

“We know from our community that a lot of users like content produced via AI tools, ranging from AI artwork to informative clips, and we want to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, based on their own preferences,” commented a company executive.

Volume and Proportions

TikTok announced that there are now over a billion videos on its app labeled as artificially created. In total, more than 100 m pieces of content are uploaded to the platform daily, making clips made by AI a limited part of its total content library.

How to Adjust Settings

Members will be able to decrease or raise the amount of artificial media they view by accessing the topic control setting in the app and choosing “AI-generated content”. Other topics that are already be controlled under the filter cover current affairs, fashion, beauty, and movement.

AI Disclosure Rules

TikTok’s guidelines require creators to identify lifelike artificially created content, and it forbids harmful fake videos of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any believable AI video that is unmarked can be taken down under its terms of service.

In addition, the service will from now on add an “AI-made” watermark to content created with its built-in AI features, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for spotting AI-generated material. This step is designed to deter users from seeking to evade the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is furthermore launching a two million dollar educational fund for professionals and organizations to create informative material about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will assist charitable organizations focused on teaching computer science.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has defended its moderation strategy, following discussion over proposals to cut jobs for numerous content moderators in Britain. TikTok is planning to eliminate a significant number of roles in its user protection division in the UK capital, with labor groups and online safety experts raising concerns that humans are being replaced by machine-led review.

A senior executive stated that human moderation would still have a role, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by filtering out the most distressing content prior to it has to be seen by staff. The platform reported a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content seen by content reviewers over the previous year due to the use of its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate humans and technology to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with dangerous material as rapidly, which is why a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
